HMH - Education & Agroforestry Project
Client: Hold My Hand, Zurich, Switzerland
Location: Osinantei, Loita region, Kenya
Status: Ongoing
In recent years, many Maasai families have become more settled and gained access to farming land. However, limited agricultural knowledge, food insecurity, access to water and a lack of reliable income opportunities remain important challenges.
The project’s main focus is supporting the Osinantei School, which has grown from 50 to 300 pupils with HMH’s support. In addition, an agroforestry and permaculture learning site has been established, and a well is currently under construction. The learning site enables students and parents to gain practical experience in regenerative agriculture. Another important focus is supporting women, who often play a proactive role in improving household livelihoods and strengthening their communities.
Edhen’s Support: Edhen supports the project with expertise in agroforestry, education and holistic project management. A key focus is co-developing context-specific solutions with local communities and project partners. Our work includes:
- Participatory project evaluation, including multi-stakeholder interviews and an assessment of local needs
- Decision-oriented recommendations and strategic planning
- Implementation planning and support throughout the project cycle
- Facilitation of collaboration between local communities, practitioners and researchers
- Project and proposal development
Results & Next Steps: In 2026, Edhen completed the project evaluation: Sereke, F. (2026).Project Evaluation and Multi-Stakeholder Interviews - Focusing on Education & Agroforestry in Osinantei, Kenya.
The evaluation provides an important basis for developing the next project phase from 2027 to 2030. The ongoing collaboration now focuses on strategic planning, project development and proposal preparation.

This scientific survey was conducted including 206 women trained between 2022 and 2024. It found an effectiveness rate of 83% and high levels of approval.
