Become a Volunteer

There are numerous ways you can combine volunteering with learning about agroforestry, regenerative agriculture and permaculture, while making a direct impact and enjoying your country of interest. The USP of Edhen is that we are working on the interface between development work and R&D, which allows for exiting and science-based experiences.

Volunteering for students

Volunteering abroad is especially rewarding for students. Whether you’d like to learn more about a particular regenerative system or contribute to a selected project, Edhen offers various ways to get involved. This is a great opportunity to advance your practical knowledge, working with excellent farmers and indigenous people. Having the qualifications and partnerships with leading universities, we can also co-supervise B.Sc. and M.Sc. theses.

At Edhen we take safety concerns very seriously. We only send volunteers to stable regions and to selected partners which we know personally. We chose our small number of projects and partners very selectively. While lacking skills can be learned, a basic integrity is preconditioned to work with Edhen. A similar strict selection process is applied at applying volunteers. We accept volunteers only after suitability checks.

Grown-up volunteering

Your experience and knowledge can be incredibly valuable to share with a local project or organization. For example, technical and engineering professions would be highly valuable for the advancement and implementation of locally adapted regenerative technologies. While teachers or social workers are needed in schools, socially oriented community projects to support underprivileged members of the society such as women and children. Professions such as Ecologists can be helpful to promote conservation efforts, while enjoying the beauty of our world’s diverse landscapes. Collaboration experts are also needed, to support the collaboration prozess and/ or conflict resolution within selected projects.

There are numerous ways you can combine volunteering with an inspiring vacation. By volunteering, you can make a direct impact while also learning about a new culture and enjoying your time to explore your country of interest. This kind of travel is really authentic as you work with the local population.

There are many reasons why it would be great if more seniors and retirees embark on volunteer trips. This is also true for not retired but experienced professionals with skills and/or experience in sustainability related fields. You have a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with the rest of the world.

How to get started?

Edhen embraces the third permaculture ethic: Fair share. Hence, depending on the project resources we will always try to find a fair cost-sharing with the students. Otherwise, we search for funds to support motivated students with scholarships. In the case of grown-up volunteering with the required skill-sets, we also try to cover the costs. The overall objective is to find a win-win solution for the participating volunteers and our local projects.
