Partnerships with Foundations and Companies

Given that agroforestry projects and planting trees require long-term investments, partnerships with foundations and companies are particularly important. This way the financial burden for the local farmers can be reduced, while long-term benefits are created for the ecosystems, climate and society.

Announcing partnerships and development programs is easy, making them work is the harder part. Hence, foundations expect high-quality proposals as well as reliable organizations in the global North and South, for successful project implementation. Edhen delivers both, with long-term experience in project implementation following strict regulations of federal and cantonal donors.

We also provide excellent services to innovative enterprises with high standards of corporate social responsibility. Edhen consultants have a wide range of experiences in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) programs, contributing towards a regenerative food system. We support the design of win-win PPPs, where risks and benefits are equitably shared.

Agroforestry (AF) is a land-use system with numerous long-term benefits. However, the costs needed to establish tree-based systems is a challenge for local communities. Hence, financial support is needed to scale up the domestication of native trees and the commercialization of tree products (and ecosystem services). We design AFS that are multi-functional, productive and profitable on the long-run.

Planting trees is also important to conserve existing forests, as well as to combat- and adapt to climate change. Hence, more R&D and development programs are needed to capitalize on the development, adaptation and mitigation opportunities. To co-develop carbon finance schemes adapted to AF, similar to Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD).

Edhen is putting in efforts to connect local communities with foundations and companies. However, it’s important to note that the objective should not be to run an business on aid money. Hence, we consider the power of the different development partners, when facilitating fair partnerships. With special respect to low income communities, as well as women and children. Similarly, we clearly differentiate between for-profit and non-profit projects. Both within our organization as well as when developing PPPs.

There are various options for cooperation. In general, we can support you to implement and grow your own development programs. Or you can choose to contribute to our regenerative development projects. Whichever option you prefer, we will happily list you in our reports and website according to your individual wishes.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us, if you have any further queries or collaboration ideas.
